How does a fire engine pump water?

The primary function of all tank fire trucks is to transport or pump water from an external source such as a hydrant, auxiliary tank, swimming pool or lake.  Fill the pipe before pumping water from an external source.  All air can be emptied by filling a hard straw.  If a pump needs to be injected, the operator simply gently presses an electronic switch on the pump dashboard.  On a tank fire truck, the main tank is located inside the truck, holds 3,785 litres of water and takes up a central position at the back of the truck.  The auxiliary tank is like a large above-ground pool that can hold about 7,570 litres of water.  A hard suction pipe with a diameter of 15cm is used to pump water from an auxiliary tank or other external water source.  Water stored in a fire truck tank or drawn from an external water source is then sprayed through a hose or hose.  These water pipes are connected at points around the truck.  We're going to learn about different kinds of water pipes.  The thick black pipe on the side of the fire engine is a hard suction pipe.  The suction of these pipes will not break them.

The core of the tank fire engine is an impeller pump.  The water pump is located directly behind the movable seating area where the firefighters ride.  An impeller is a device that bends its blades like a rotor.  The impeller is driven by its own diesel engine and spins at high speed inside a pump.  When water enters the pump, it hits the inside of the impeller and is thrown out.  The centrifugal force of the impeller's rotation creates water pressure, and when the valve is opened, water rushes to the center of the rotating impeller.  Capt. DavidPrice of the Bayleaf Volunteer Fire Department in North Carolina vividly describes this step as "the eye goes into the impeller."  The pump dashboard is used to control the flow of the hose at certain times. The water pump instrument panel on the top of the fire engine can be used to control the hoses.  The pump dashboard has a series of levers and switches to control the flow of water and discharge lines.  Upon arrival at the scene of the fire, the driver will jump out of the vehicle, climb onto the top of the truck and begin the pump operation.  The indicator (a set of red lights on the pump dashboard) indicates to the operator the amount of water remaining in the tank. One thing the pump operator should do is make sure the valve between the tank and the pump is open.  Use the electrical switch on the right side of the pump to open the valve and ensure that water flows into the pump.  In the next step, the operator will check which hoses have been pulled off the fire engine by the firefighters before it is discharged.  "Discharge" allows water to flow out of the pump and into the hose.  These water pipes have a color code on them so that the operator can identify the pipe to discharge.  The color of the water pipe corresponds to the logo under each lever on the pump dashboard. Most emissions are controlled by a built-in electronic device called the mastermind.  It automatically controls the pump and increases or decreases pressure.  In addition, the device has a built-in safety valve, so if someone suddenly cuts the water pipe, the pressure in the pipe will not automatically be passed to other pipes. This fire truck also has a foam system with about 76 liters of foam in it.  The foam box is embedded in the main water tank.  Water tank fire trucks have different types of foam.  The truck has a foam that can be used to fill materials inside buildings to inhibit their reignition.  B Foam used to extinguish car fires and other fires where flammable liquids may be present.
